U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), Congressman Rod Blum (R-IA), Congressman Steve King (R-IA) and Congressman David Young were all named Heroes of Main Street by the National Retail Federation this week.

The National Retail Federation recognized more than 300 members of Congress for their support of retail industry priorities including international trade, infrastructure investment, tax reform and labor issues. The “Hero of Main Street” award is being presented as part of NRF’s annual Retail Advocates Summit fly-in, which has retailers from across the country in Washington today through Wednesday come to Washington, DC to meet with lawmakers to discuss the latest issues facing the industry.

“This bipartisan group of lawmakers has shown that they care about retailers big and small and value the role these businesses play in communities across the country,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said. “We appreciate their advocacy on behalf of a thriving Main Street, their support for the long-term growth of the retail industry, and their recognition of retail’s role as a catalyst for continued growth and opportunity for our nation’s economy.”

“I am honored to receive this recognition from the National Retail Federation for my work to reignite our economy and support of common sense policies that help our businesses thrive,” Blum said. “As a career small businessman I know just how difficult dealing with the federal government can be, and I will continue to be an advocate for the Main Street businesses that are the backbone of our economy.”

“I’m glad to support policies that help retailers create and sustain jobs,” Grassley said. “Retail is a major part of the nation’s economic well-being.  Expanding employment opportunities and promoting innovation within the retail sector are important to economic growth.”
