(Des Moines, IA) Congressman David Young (R-IA) announced his campaign team this afternoon, comprised of Iowa political veterans with experience at the state party, presidential caucus campaigns, and other local and state races. The campaign also announced that it has surpassed $1 million in in the bank, while the three Democratic candidates deplete their accounts in an unexpectedly close primary battle.

“We have a great team and I look forward to building on our momentum, as I continue to work hard for the people of Iowa’s Third Congressional District,” said Congressman Young. “Since my election, I have delivered on my pledge to visit with the people in each of the 16 counties in the Third District at least once every month. The message I hear from the Iowans I meet with is clear – they want effective leadership that will leave our nation stronger, safer and more prosperous for current and future generations. I fight for these solutions in Congress on their behalf each and every day.”

Young’s new campaign team members include:

Charlie Szold, campaign manager

Charlie Szold has served as communication director for a variety of Republican organizations, elected officials, and candidates. After graduating from American University in 2011, Szold worked for USA TODAY before joining the Iowa GOP’s Victory Program for the 2012 presidential election. In 2015 he was the communication director for the Iowa GOP during the First in the Nation Iowa Caucuses.

Eric Baker, deputy campaign manager

An Illinoisan by birth and Iowan by choice, Eric Baker has called Des Moines home since beginning studies in International Business and Marketing at Drake University in 2010. He has built extensive experience through involvement at the Iowa GOP for the 2012 Caucuses, Tom Latham’s 2012 reelection campaign, U.S. Senator Scott Brown’s campaign in Massachusetts, and communications consulting at Purple Strategies in Chicago. Baker most recently served as the Des Moines-based field director for the RNC Victory program in 2014 and Governor Jeb Bush’s Presidential Caucus campaign in 2016.

Laura Steven, finance director

Iowa native Laura Steven hails from Rock Rapids, and is a graduate of Morningside College, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Political Science. While earning her degree, she spent a semester clerking in the Iowa State Senate. She continued her career in politics upon graduation and worked as a field director in the 2014 Senate primary race and as a political director for Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey. Most recently she served as finance director for the Iowa GOP, helping stage events like the Lincoln Dinner and Growth and Opportunity Party.
