Donald Trump met with one thousand evangelical and social conservative leaders on Tuesday in New York City. This was a much anticipated meeting since Trump is struggling to shore up the Republican Party base as the presumptive Republican nominee. This meeting was intended to try to ease evangelicals’ concerns about his candidacy.

Trump held a smaller gathering prior to the main event. Trump discussed how our leaders are selling Christianity down the tubes.

He specifically addressed evangelicals praying for their leaders.

“Some of the people are saying, ‘let’s pray for our leaders.’ I said, ‘You can pray for your leaders, and I agree with that, pray for everyone. But what you really have to do is pray to get everyone out to vote for one specific person.” Trump said in a video taken by E.W. Jackson. “We can’t be politically correct and say we pray for all of our leaders because all of your leaders are selling Christianity down the tubes and selling evangelicals down the tubes and it is a very bad thing that is happening.”

So according to Donald Trump if you were to say I am praying for all of our leaders I am being politically correct. It is a good thing that the Bible, not Donald Trump is our guide for such matters.

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior who desires all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth,” (1 Timothy 2:1-4, ESV)

I guess I’ll be politically correct.
