There are a couple of videos circulating around that show that some supporters of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton can be rather dense.

On the Hulu series Triumph the Insult Comic Dog they stage a focus group with what they call  “Trump’s biggest supporters.” They then present them with a series of increasingly outrageous and extremely fake campaign ads to find out how far they’re willing to go in support of their candidate.

Yes this is mind-boggling, embarrassing and humorous. What it doesn’t prove, as I have seen some suggest, that all Trump supporters are like this. What it does show is that the show is extremely good at screening their participants.

Hillary Clinton has followers who are just as ignorant as Jimmy Kimmel Live went to different “diehard Hillary Clinton supporters” and filmed them agreeing with things Donald Trump has actually said after telling them Clinton said it.

All these videos show is that every campaign, and I mean every campaign, has people who are low information voters. Unfortunately our sound byte culture and decreasing attention spans will probably lead to this getting worse.

What shouldn’t be done is use things like this as evidence one side’s supporters are stupid and the like. That is uncivil, inappropriate and untrue. Enjoy the comedy, but don’t offer it up as proof.

Let’s elevate our political discourse shall we?
