Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds and Governor Terry Branstad wait to address the 2014 Rally for Life.

Iowa Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds, who will be sworn-in as Governor once Governor Terry Branstad resigns from office after being confirmed as U.S. Ambassador to China, announced today that she is in a sound financial position when she runs for reelection as an incumbent.

She will have at least one challenger in the 2018 Republican Primary. Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett announced he will not be seeking reelection and has indicated interest in the Governor’s office.

The Kim Reynolds for Lieutenant Governor Committee announced that its end of year fundraising report will show that the committee ended 2016 with nearly $1.1 million cash-on-hand, and raised $637,910 in 2016.

“I am grateful and humbled to have the support of so many Iowans throughout our great state,” Reynolds said in a released statement. “We stand poised to build on our accomplishments. That wouldn’t be possible without the help and support of so many Iowans.

“As I travel our state, I’ve had the opportunity to talk with, and more importantly, listen to Iowans from every corner of the state. To put it simply, Iowans are looking for a prosperous future for themselves and their families. My pledge to them is to build on our progress by focusing on equal opportunity in education, promoting policies that lead to job creation, and by reducing the size and cost of government. I believe every Iowan deserves the opportunity to connect with their greatest aspirations. Together we will continue to make Iowa the best place to live, work and raise a family,” Reynolds added. “It is my privilege and honor to serve the people of Iowa.”

Some details of this fundraising effort include:

  • Total funds raised in 2016 are $637,910. Funds raised in 2015 were $529,375.
  • Total Cash-On-Hand is $1,077,729.
  • 76% of all contributions are under $300.
  • 95% of all contributions are from Iowans.

They said their report will be filed with the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board by January 19th.
