The 2017 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) kicked off on Thursday! The day was packed with great speakers, awesome booth sponsors, the usual intense media coverage, and hundreds of conservatives coming together to learn, grow, and network. Although the day was full of notable events and people, there were definitely some highlights.
Here are the top five highlights from Day #1:
Kellyanne Conway
The former campaign manager and current counselor to President Donald J. Trump was one of the first speakers on the mainstage today. Encouraging conservative women everywhere, she gave her story of success, and talked about how she was encouraged to be a strong woman who made her own choices without needing modern feminism to fight for her. “I look at myself as a product of my choices, not a victim of my circumstances,” she said.
Scott Walker Breaking His High Five Record
The Wisconsin governor went to the Facebook Live booth in order break his standing high five record. Dozens and dozens of people lined up to high five the governor. He ended up breaking it, high fiving several hundred people in the course of a short period of time.
Ken Bone
CPAC was able to witness Ken Bone in the flesh, not just in meme form. The internet sensation came to CPAC in order to raise awareness for the group Victory Holdings, an organization that works to put everyday Americans in touch with donors so that they have the funds to run for office against big money politicians. While at CPAC, he has made a splash, attracting many for pictures giving out Ken Bone bumper stickers and buttons.
Jesse Watter’s World (@ CPAC)
It’s his world, and we’re all just living in it (sort of). Jesse Watters was a huge hit as he wandered the halls of CPAC getting footage for Fox. Anywhere you saw a flock of stunned high school and college girls and several guys pretending they were cool, you knew Jesse Watters had to be there as well.
Vice President Mike Pence
And of course, no CPAC highlight list would be complete without mentioning the speech given by Vice President Mike Pence. Hyping up the crowd for this new administration, Pence said,
“From this day forward, to make America great again, President Trump and I need every ounce of your energy and enthusiasm, you courage, your passion. And we need one more thing: We need your prayers.”
