(Des Moines, IA) Dr. Joe Stowell will be the keynote speaker for the 56th annual Iowa Prayer Breakfast that will be held on Thursday, April 13th, 2017 at 7:15-8:45 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center (formerly Veterans Memorial Auditorium) at 883 5th Avenue, Des Moines, IA  50309.

The purpose of the Iowa Prayer Breakfast is to bring together Iowa’s governor, state legislators, and community and religious leaders to join with the public to ask God’s direction and blessing upon the state. Starting in 1961, Iowans have continued this beloved tradition, gathering every Maundy Thursday to celebrate the beginning of the Easter weekend. People from all walks of life come to enjoy the reading of Scripture, listen to local vocalists and musicians, and to hear an inspiring message from a selected keynote speaker. Governor Branstad, First Lady Chris Branstad, Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds and several other elected officials have committed to attend this year’s prayer breakfast.

An internationally recognized conference speaker, Dr. Stowell has written numerous books. Dr. Stowell has a distinguished career in higher education and church leadership. For 18 years, he served as the president of Moody Bible Institute. After MBI, Dr. Stowell served as a teaching pastor in suburban Chicago before he assumed the presidency at Cornerstone University in Michigan. President Stowell is a graduate of Cedarville University and Dallas Theological Seminary and serves on the Board of Wheaton College. He also writes devotionals for Our Daily Bread and has filmed Christian historical documentaries.

Dr. Stowell’s life is marked by a deep love for Jesus, which is reflected in his desire to value people, aid the poor and marginalized, and to build a strong and vibrant community where the presence of Christ is evident.

The title of Dr. Stowell’s remarks is “Kings and Kingdoms.”

The cost to attend the Iowa Prayer Breakfast is $25 for adults and $10 for students. The reservation deadline is the end of the business day April 5th. To register, go to www.IowaPrayerBreakfast.com. For questions about reservations, email questions@iowaprayerbreakfast.com.
