The Supreme Court heard a big case last week, Janus v. AFSCME could make a significant impact on the 22 states that are not right to work, their government employees, and the public employee unions established there. Our host, Shane Vander Hart, discussed this case with Vinne Vernuccio, a senior fellow with Mackinac Center for Public Policy in Midland, MI, who had the opportunity to be present when oral arguments were being made.

If the Supreme Court rules in favor of Mark Janus, a state employee in Illinois who sued for the right to not pay union dues in order to work in state government, it could have an incredible impact on the membership, funding, as well as, influence that public employee unions have.

Vernuccio prior being a senior fellow at the Mackinac Center served as the organization’s director of labory policy from 2012 to 2017.

He is a graduate of the Ave Maria School of Law in Ann Arbor, Mich. Under President George W. Bush, Vernuccio served as special assistant to the assistant secretary for administration and management in the Department of Labor.

He has published articles and op-eds in such newspapers and magazines as The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Investor’s Business Daily, The Washington Times, National Review, Forbes and The American Spectator. He has been cited in several books, and he is a frequent contributor on national television and radio shows, such as “Your World” with Neil Cavuto and Varney and Company.
