Twenty-one Iowa Legislators have decided not to run for reelection in 2018. The Iowa House will have 16 members retire after this session. Twelve Republicans and four Democrats will leave the House. The Iowa Senate Republicans have two retirements and Democrats sees three retirements.

Iowa House Retirements:

  1. State Representative Chuck Holz (R-LeMars) in Iowa House District 5.
  2. State Representative Helen Miller (D-Fort Dodge) in Iowa House District 9.
  3. State Representative Ralph Watts (R-Adel) in Iowa House District 19.
  4. State Representative Clel Baudler (R-Greenfield) in Iowa House District 20.
  5. State Representative Greg Heartsill (R-Chariton) in Iowa House District 28.
  6. State Representative Rob Taylor (R-West Des Moines) in Iowa House District 44.
  7. State Representative Chip Baltimore (R-Boone) in Iowa House District 47.
  8. State Representative Kristi Hager (R-Waukon) in Iowa House District 56. (She is running for county supervisor in Allamakee County.)
  9. State Representative Ken Rizer (R-Marion) in Iowa House District 68.
  10. State Representative Todd Taylor (D-Cedar Rapids) in Iowa House District 70. (Taylor is running for the open seat in Iowa Senate District 35.)
  11. State Representative Dawn Pettengill (R-Mount Auburn) in Iowa House District 75.
  12. State Representative Guy Vander Linden (R-Oskaloosa) in iowa House District 79.
  13. State Representative Larry Sheets (R-Moulton) in Iowa House District 80.
  14. State Representative Jerry Kearns (D-Keokuk) in Iowa House District 83.
  15. State Representative David Heaton (R-Mount Pleasant) in Iowa House District 84.
  16. State Representative Abby Finkenauer (D-Dubuque) in Iowa House District 99. (Finkenauer is running for Congress in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District).

Iowa Senate Retirements:

  1. State Senator Rick Bertrand (R-Sioux City) in Iowa Senate District 7.
  2. State Senator Matt McCoy (D-Des Moines) in Iowa Senate District 21. (McCoy is running for Polk County Supervisor).
  3. State Senator Wally Horn (D-Cedar Rapids) in Iowa Senate District 35.
  4. State Senator Robert Dvorsky (D-Coralville) in Iowa Senate District 37.
  5. State Senator Mark Chelgren (R-Ottumwa) in Iowa Senate District 41.

Not included in former Iowa Senate Majority Leader Bill Dix (R-Shell Rock) who resigned last week.
