On Saturday, the Libertarian Party of Iowa reconvened a state convention to nominate candidates for federal and state-wide ballot vacancies. Caffeinated Thoughts already reported that Lynne Gentry was nominated to be Jake Porter’s running mate in Iowa’s Gubernatorial Race.
They also nominated:
- Secretary of State: Jules Ofenbakh who is an attorney from West Des Moines. He is currently an officer of the LPIA State Central Committee. Ofenbakh brings a business law background to the race and is an advocate for voter access as an immigrant to the United States from Russia.
- Attorney General: Marco Battaglia, who is a Des Moines independent journalist and musician. Battaglia recently ran against Porter in the party’s gubernatorial primary, participating at forums and debates statewide. He was Communications Director in Iowa for the Johnson/Weld Presidential campaign and is a longtime libertarian advocate.
- Secretary of Agriculture: Rick Stewart from Cedar Rapids brings his passion for agricultural freedom and free markets to this race. He was a candidate for Linn County Sheriff in 2016 on the Libertarian ticket and ran as an independent for United States Senate in 2014, visiting all 99 counties on his bicycle your.
- Auditor of State: Fred Perryman is a sales manager from Cedar Falls sales manager. He brings his private sector leadership experience into the race. He is an alternate representative for District 1 on the LPIA State Central Committee.
- Treasurer of State: Timothy Hird, an engineer from Des Moines, will represent the Libertarian ticket. Tim is stalwart party activist and longtime treasurer of the LPIA State Central Committee until 2016.
For the first time, Libertarians will have a candidate in all four Congressional districts. Two candidates were nominated by convention joining Bryan Jake Holder in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District and Charles Aldrich in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District who were on the party’s first primary ballot.
- Iowa 1st Congressional District: Troy Hageman is a Libertarian activist from Calmar. Hageman ran for Iowa Senate in 2016.
- Iowa 2nd Congressional District: Mark Strauss, a businessman from Bettendorf businessman, brings his leadership experience and passion for limited government and transparency to the race. Strauss recently volunteered with the “Cajun Navy” in Houston following Hurricane Harvey as a volunteer, assisting with search and rescue.
