(Des Moines, IA) On Friday, Iowa Senate Majority Leader Jack Whitver (R-Ankeny) announced the appointment of State Senator Mike Breitbach (R-Strawberry Point) as Chair of the Iowa Senate Appropriations Committee.
“I am grateful for this opportunity to lead the Appropriations Committee,” Breitbach said, “Iowans expect their tax dollars to be spent wisely and judiciously. I look forward to working with my colleagues in both the House and the Senate to ensure the effective management of those dollars.”
Breitbach most recently served as Chair of the Government Oversight Committee and Vice Chair of the Transportation and Commerce Committees. Breitbach floor managed a number of major pieces of legislation during the 87th General Assembly, including Workers’ Compensation Reform, Energy Reform, and Standing Appropriations in 2018.
“Senator Breitbach is an invaluable member of our caucus and I appreciate his willingness to take this important role,” Whitver stated. “He has proven he can effectively manage complex and challenging issues and few roles in this chamber are more complex or challenging than Chair of Appropriations.”
Senator Breitbach assumes his role as Chair of Appropriations immediately. Senate President Charles Schneider (R-West Des Moines) previously served as the chairman of the Iowa Senate Appropriations Committee.
