Judge Brett Kavanaugh
Judge Brett Kavanaugh

The Senate Judiciary Committee sent a timeline of Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and committee staff actions in investigating allegations made against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Reading through the outline, I saw on Wednesday two men claimed they were the ones who had the encounter with Christine Blasey Ford.

They report:

Committee staff receives a more in-depth written statement from the man interviewed twice previously who believes he, not Judge Kavanuagh, had the encounter in question with Dr. Ford.

Committee investigative staff spoke via phone with another man who believes he, not Judge Kavanuagh, had the encounter with Dr. Ford in 1982 that is the basis of her allegation.  He explained his recollection of the details of the encounter.

We don’t know the veracity of these claims. We don’t know the identity of the men. I find it interesting that committee investigators interviewed one of the men twice (on 9/25 and 9/26). We also don’t know if they know each other or know Kavanaugh. Both men could be bonkers for all we know. I suspect if their testimony has any credibility Grassley will release more information sooner rather than later.

The Ford allegation regarding corroboration has hit a dead end since every witness she has provided failed to corroborate her account or if the party happened. One of the witnesses, her friend who was the other female present at the party Ford recounted, said she did not have any recollection about the party and did not know Kavanaugh.

Hopefully, today’s hearing provides some additional clarity, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

Update: Dr. Ford was asked about this and said she is “100 percent sure” that her assailant was Brett Kavanaugh.
