Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) released an executive summary of the FBI supplemental background investigation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh. The Senate is scheduled to have a cloture vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court today. The final vote, should his confirmation pass cloture, will be on Saturday.
The summary says the FBI decided to reach out to eleven people, ten of whom agreed to be interviewed. The FBI reached out to all witnesses with potential firsthand knowledge of the allegations. Secondhand witness accounts do not provide corroboration for either Dr. Christine Ford’s claim that Kavanaugh attempted to rape her when back in 1982 or Deborah Ramirez’s allegation that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her while drunk at a party when he was a student at Yale University.
The FBI provided to the Senate 12 detailed FD-302 reports summarizing their interviews with the witnesses as well as supporting materials cited by the witnesses during their interviews.
Neither Ford or Kavanaugh were interviewed by the FBI since both have hours of sworn testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
