Hi, my name is Shane, and I dislike fundraising. However, it is necessary from time to time and I rarely do it. I launched Caffeinated Thoughts over 12 years ago as a personal blog, but it has morphed into much more than that. In that time we’ve grown in size and influence both in Iowa and nationally.
We’ve gone from one contributor (me) to multiple contributors over the years. We had a weekly radio program on a local station for over three years, have a weekly podcast, and hosted three conferences.
Caffeinated Thoughts has been provided free of charge and will always be free.
That said, this site exists because of the generosity of both sponsors and partners, and we run on a shoestring budget. (Contrary to what some may think, my livelihood does not come from Caffeinated Thoughts.)
While we provide our content for free, Caffeinated Thoughts’ upkeep is not free. It costs money to host the site which increases every year as our archives and traffic grow. It costs to maintain the site, last month we made significant changes to our theme and behind-the-scenes to help our website load faster and provide a better experience for our readers. It costs to deliver content – traveling to events, hardware and software purchases, and social media advertising to help push our message out.
Did I mention we do this on a shoestring budget? So that means there is a lot we can not do.
So, the question I’m uncomfortable asking is this: would you consider, if you are able, helping out?
After asking that I want to be clear that we are not a non-profit, donations to Caffeinated Thoughts are not tax deductible.
I will also say that we do not rely on donors alone, we also have sponsors, and if you have a business, event, organization, or product that you would like to put before our readers, e-mail subscribers, or podcast listeners I would love to hear from you.
