AKRON, Iowa – U.S. Rep. Steve Kingâs re-election campaign announces that it will be hosting his annual General Bud Day Pheasant Hunt again this year near Akron at The Hole âN the Wall Lodge on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday October 27, 2019.
The King for Congress campaign has held the annual event since 2006.
âWe are honored every year to celebrate the legacy of one of Americanâs greatest military heroes, General Bud Day. Gen. Day attended our hunt multiple times and we always take a moment to reflect on his life and share stories of Gen. Day with our guests. He will always be Siouxlandâs hero,â said King.
Day, a Sioux City native, was the nationâs most decorated war hero at the time of his death in 2013. A Medal of Honor recipient, he also received some 70 military decorations, including the Air Force Cross, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross and multiple awards of the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart and the Air Medal.
Day served in World War II as a Marine, and later served with the Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was shot down over North Vietnam in 1967, was captured, and was held until 1973 as a prisoner of war in several prison camps near Hanoi where he endured being beaten, starved, and tortured.
The 70-year-old incumbent Congressman from Kiron has been joined by high profile guests for past hunts. In 2018, 2nd Amendment advocate Antonia Okafor joined him for his hunt. Donald Trump, Jr. joined the hunt in 2017. He has also had past Republican presidential candidates attend as well such as U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, former Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.
King faces State Sen. Randy Feenstra of Hull, Woodbury County Supervisor Jeremy Taylor, former Irwin Mayor Bret Richards, and Arnold Park real estate developer Steve Reeder in a five-way Republican primary in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District on June 2, 2020.
