MARION, Iowa – Ashley Hinson, Republican candidate for Congress in Iowa’s 1st district, announced Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig’s endorsement of her campaign on Tuesday morning.

“I am proud to endorse Ashley Hinson to be the next Congresswoman for the first district.  She has been a strong advocate for agriculture in Des Moines, and I have no doubt she will be a fantastic representative for farmers and manufacturers.  My team and I are going to do everything we can to get her across the finish line,” Naig said.

“We are thrilled to have Secretary Naig on Team Hinson,” Hinson said in a released statement.  “Mike is a fierce advocate for agriculture in our state.  When it comes to our farmers, he understands that we can never put politics before people.  When I go to Washington, I will tirelessly advocate for Iowa farmers.”

Since launching her campaign, Hinson has established herself as one of the strongest House candidates in the country. National political forecasters believe Iowa’s 1st congressional district will be one of the most competitive races in 2020. The Cook Political Report has rated IA-01 as “Toss Up”.

Hinson’s financial supporters include Ernst Victory Iowa PAC (U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst), Majority Committee PAC (House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy), Eye of the Tiger PAC (U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise), Cowboy PAC (U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney), E-PAC (U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik), CMR PAC (U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris-Rodgers), Susan PAC (U.S. Rep. Susan Brooks), Cut the Bull PAC (U.S. Rep. Carol Miller), Martha PAC (U.S. Rep. Martha Roby), The Freedom Project (U.S. Rep. John Boehner), ANN PAC (U.S. Rep. Ann Wagner) and VIEW PAC.

Hinson has a record of winning tough elections. She won in 2018 in a swing district to help hold the Republican majority in the Iowa House and outperformed the Republican ticket by 5-8 points across House District 67, the heart of Iowa’s 1st Congressional District. She won 9 of 13 precincts in Iowa House District 67 in spite of Democratic outside groups outspending Republican outside groups.

An Iowa native, Hinson is the first woman to represent Iowa House District 67, which includes Hiawatha, Robins, Cedar Rapids and Marion. Prior to serving in the Iowa House, she was an award-winning reporter and anchor for KCRG-TV9 in Cedar Rapids. Hinson currently lives in Marion with her husband Matt and their two sons.
