DES MOINES, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, officially filed for re-election delivering almost 24,000 signatures to Iowa’s Secretary of State’s office on Monday morning to appear on the Republican primary ballot on June 2, 2020.
She does not have a contested primary.
“I just turned in 23,812 ballot access petition signatures! That’s 7 times the required amount, and we qualified in all 99 counties! Thank you so much to everyone who worked so hard to make this happen!” Ernst tweeted on Monday morning.
The number of signatures required this cycle for Ernst was 3,337 which is 0.5 percent of the votes that Governor Kim Reynolds won in 2018. Ernst was also required to collect the equivalent of one percent of the 2018 gubernatorial vote for Reynolds in a minimum of ten counties. Her campaign collected that number of signatures in all 99 counties.
The applicant filing deadline for the primary ends on March 13, 2020.
