MARION, Iowa – Ashley Hinson, Republican candidate for Congress in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, raised more than $550,000 in the first quarter. This quarter is Hinson’s largest fundraising quarter to date, beating Q4 of 2019 by more than $100,000. The campaign added 4,232 new donors in Q1 and received an average donation of about $100. Her campaign reports more than $943,000 cash-on-hand.

“Our campaign continues to resonate with voters in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, and I am thrilled that we’re raising the money necessary to tell my story and share our message with Iowans,” said Hinson. “We will continue to work as hard as possible to build on this momentum. Now more than ever, it is clear we need to end the chaos and dysfunction in Washington, and I look forward to bringing Iowa common sense with me to DC,” Hinson said.

“The grassroots enthusiasm for Ashley is building every day. We are excited by the surge of small-dollar donations to the campaign,” said Hinson campaign manager Jimmy Peacock. “We’re on track to have the resources needed to successfully spread Ashley’s message and win in November.”

National political forecasters believe Iowa’s 1st Congressional District race will be one of the most competitive races in 2020. The Cook Political Report has rated IA-01 as a “Toss Up.”

Hinson’s financial supporters include Ernst Victory Iowa PAC (Sen. Joni Ernst), Majority Committee PAC (Leader Kevin McCarthy), Eye of the Tiger PAC (Rep. Steve Scalise), Cowboy PAC (Rep. Liz Cheney), E-PAC (Rep. Elise Stefanik), CMR PAC (Rep. Cathy McMorris-Rodgers), Susan PAC (Rep. Susan Brooks), Cut the Bull PAC (Rep. Carol Miller), Martha PAC (Rep. Martha Roby), The Freedom Project (Rep. John Boehner), ANN PAC (Rep. Ann Wagner) and VIEW PAC.

Hinson has a record of winning tough elections. She won in 2018 in a swing district to help hold the Iowa House majority and outperformed the Republican ticket by 5-8 points across Iowa House District 67. She won 9 of 13 precincts in House District 67 despite Democratic outside groups outspending Republican outside groups.

An Iowa native, Hinson is the first woman to represent Iowa’s 67th House District, which covers Hiawatha, Robins, Cedar Rapids, and Marion. Before serving in the Iowa House, Ashley was an award-winning reporter and anchor for KCRG-TV9 in Cedar Rapids. Ashley currently lives in Marion with her husband, Matt, and their two sons.
