Sara Kurovski’s mailer attacking Wes Enos in the Polk County Supervisor District 3 Republican primary.

After receiving yet another mailer from Pleasant Hill Mayor Sara Kurovski’s campaign for Polk County Supervisor in District 3, I thought I would follow-up on my earlier opinion piece about this race.

As a refresher, District 3 includes Altoona, Ankeny, Bondurant, Mitchellville, Pleasant Hill, and a portion of unincorporated Polk County. It is the district where I live.

Kurovski and Bondurant City Councilman Wes Enos are challenging incumbent Supervisor Steve Van Oort in a three-way Republican primary on June 2.

The new mailer she sent is similar to the one she sent before, highlighting Enos’ Twitter account and tweets he wrote back in 2015 critical of President Donald Trump.

What does this have to do with the Polk County Supervisor race? Nothing, absolutely nothing.

Anyone who knows me knows that I didn’t vote for President Donald Trump in 2016. If you are a regular reader or follow me on social media, you know I still criticize him when I think he deserves it (I also praise good policy). I also find his past behavior abhorrent.

That said, I find it amusing that Kurovski attacks Enos for the SAME thing she did before the 2016 election. Both Enos and Kurovski supported different candidates. A vast majority of Iowa Republicans opposed Trump before the Iowa Caucus.

A stroll through Kurovski’s Facebook page will reveal these gems:

Ah look, Kurovski converses with now State Senator Claire Celsi, D-West Des Moines, who is probably one of the most radical liberals in the Iowa Senate. She also has a crazy social media presence of her own.

So, ok for me, but not for thee?

I’ll reiterate that avid support in 2015 or 2016 (or even today) for President Trump has nothing to do with this race.

What it does show is that Kurovski is a hypocrite who would rather attack Enos and not run on her record.

It’s no secret why. Kurovski opposed the gun rights omnibus bill that passed in the Iowa Legislature in 2017. She also supported the local option sales tax increase, something Pleasant Hill shot down in 2018, but approved in a low-turnout election in 2019. These are two issue directly applicable to county government that Republicans care deeply about. They support gun rights and they oppose tax increases.

Her campaign website says NOTHING about her record or positions. Her recent social media does not touch on any issues, like at all. In fact, she made her Twitter account private which I find ironic.

As a voter, her record and where she stands on issues matters far more to me than her opponent’s view of Trump back in 2015 or 2016.
