DES MOINES, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, on Monday in a released video challenged her Democratic challenger, Theresa Greenfield, to six debates beginning in August.

You know, I haven’t heard Theresa Greenfield say one thing that Chuck Schumer hasn’t told her to say. And, that’s not what Iowans expect in a leader. So I’m challenging Ms. Greenfield to six debates. Two each month, starting in August. Let’s let Iowans hear what we have to say,” Ernst said in the video below.

The Ernst campaign accused Greenfield of following Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s “windowless basement strategy.”

According to a report, Schumer tells his Senate recruits that they’ll spend “16 months in a windowless basement raising money and then we’re going to spend 80 percent of it on negative ads.”

During the Democratic primary, Greenfield held the fewest events and had the least accessibility compared to the rest of the field.

Greenfield’s campaign responded to Ernst’s challenge saying, ““Of course Theresa is going to debate Ernst.”

They did not commit to the number of debates or the time frame suggested by the incumbent U.S. Senator.
