Miller-Meeks Kicks Off Barnstorm Tour of Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District

CHARITON, Iowa – State Senator Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Ottumwa, began her “barnstorm tour” today of Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District during which she will visit all 24 counties before the November 3 election. On the tour, the campaign says Miller-Meeks will underscore her qualifications and commitment to work to create jobs, make healthcare more accessible and affordable and contain government spending and regulations.  

“I enjoy traveling across the district and have been to each county numerous times, but I think it’s especially important to be available and accessible to voters in these final days of the campaign so they can ask questions and get straightforward answer even as the pandemic requires us to follow a smart, safe approach to interacting with others,” Miller-Meeks said. “In Congress, I’ll always be available to my constituents. I will not only lean in to listen to them but I will also bring their voice to Washington and take decisive action on the issues facing the 2nd district.”

The first leg of the tour begins with stops in Lucas, Clarke, and Decatur counties. The tour will come to a close Friday, October 30 with a final stop in Wapello County. 

“This tour will encapsulate the work ethic voters of the 2nd district can expect from Dr. Miller-Meeks as a member of Congress,” said campaign manager Austin Harris. “Her opponent has spent most of the year hiding in her basement and using the pandemic as an excuse not to present herself in front of voters and give them the opportunity to ask tough questions. During that same time, Dr. Miller-Meeks has safely interacted with voters countless times. She will not only work tirelessly for her constituents, but she will never quit fighting for the people of Iowa to ensure they have more economic opportunities, stronger communities and a better quality of life.”

Miller-Meeks is an ophthalmologist and a 24-year U.S. Army veteran representing Senate District 41 in the Iowa Senate, which includes Davis, Jefferson, Van Buren, and Wapello counties. She seeks the seat vacated by U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack, a seven-term Democratic congressman. After 14 years of Democrat control, Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District is now rated as a “toss-up,” according to national political forecasters. Of the 31 congressional districts won by Trump and held by Democrats, Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District is the only open seat.
