DES MOINES – Two Iowa Supreme Court justices up for retention on Nov. 2 have suspended their campaigns one week prior to the election. The media reported the two justices cancelled a campaign appearance Wednesday in Iowa City.
“The justices cancelled their campaign appearances over the public outcry about their campaigning on the taxpayers’ dime,” Iowa For Freedom State Chair Bob Vander Plaats said. “The justices have been making campaign appearances on college campuses across Iowa and have been called out about not reporting their campaign expenditures.”
Iowa Supreme Court justices Michael Streit and David Baker were scheduled to appear with two attorneys Wednesday at a campaign event at the University of Iowa.
“The November election is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated in memory,” Vander Plaats said. “Voters are increasingly unhappy, and they should be. Their voices have not been heard for a long time, and an important article in our Constitution, ‘all power is inherent in the people,’” has fallen on deaf ears for way too long."
