Iowa Governor Terry Branstad plans to sign a proclamation on Thursday declaring April to be “Abortion Recovery Month” in Iowa in a ceremony at the Iowa State Capitol at 2:00p.  Pro-life activists, such as, Steven Brody, the executive director of Dubuque County Right to Life, said that the pro-life community applauds his decision since abortion is an “emotional and traumatic subject that has affected so many men and women over the years.”

Brody also said that there are many Iowa organizations that offer support and services for women who have had abortions and others who have felt its impact.  He said, “These organizations promote policies that reinforce a culture of life and hope. Abortion recovery programs help individuals heal by providing counseling, support groups, encouragement and education.”

Brody claims that Governor Branstad’s recognition will both encourage and promote healing opportunities, as well as, raise awareness in the state about the aftermath of abortion.
