There has been numerous statements made about the news of Andrew Breitbart’s sudden death today.  Here are a few of them:

Rick Santorum:

I am stunned by the news of Andrew’s passing.  Andrew was a revolutionary voice and energetic advocate for conservatism across the country.  What separated Andrew from most was his courage to stand up to the liberal elite while living in the lion’s den itself.  He was never afraid to stand up for what was right, even when he knew he would be attacked for it.  This is a significant loss, not just for conservatism, but for keeping our media and our leaders accountable.  My wife Karen and I will keep Andrew’s family and his loved-ones in our thoughts and prayers.

Sarah Palin:

We are all stunned and saddened by the news of Andrew Breitbart’s passing. Andrew was a warrior who stood on the side of what was right. He defended what was right. He defended the defenseless.

It is so sad to consider his four young children who have lost their dad. All our prayers are with his family now. May God comfort his wife and children.

Many of us will have life-long memories of our work or encounters with Andrew. May we draw on those to help forward the cause of fighting for what is right. For me, just one of those memories was in Pella, Iowa, last year after the premiere of “The Undefeated.” Andrew held court in the restaurant at the local hotel talking about his favorite topic: how “culture is upstream of politics” and how conservatives must be unafraid to fight the leftwing media, cultural, and political establishments. The loss of his voice in this fight will be deeply felt, but thankfully his work lives on at his “Bigs,” and thank God for his inspiration and leadership.

God bless you, Andrew. Rest in peace, friend. We will continue the fight.

Matt Drudge:

In the first decade of the DRUDGEREPORT Andrew Breitbart was a constant source of energy, passion and commitment. We shared a love of headlines, a love of the news, an excitement about what’s happening. I don’t think there was a single day during that time when we did not flash each other or laugh with each other, or challenge each other. I still see him in my mind’s eye in Venice Beach, the sunny day I met him. He was in his mid 20’s. It was all there. He had a wonderful, loving family and we all feel great sadness for them today…

Jonah Goldberg:

There will be lots of eulogies and obituaries for Andrew, including my own, talking about his politics and his beautiful wife and kids and his bottomless happy-warrior spirit. And that’s all true and right and appropriate. But people — particularly NRO readers — should know that Andrew’s accomplishments didn’t begin with his relatively recent fame and his gonzo antics. People will talk a lot about Shirley Sherrod and Anthony Weiner and that’s all fine and good. He’d like it, in fact. But he was a great, sweet, smart guy destined for great things long before he became a cultural touchstone. Indeed, his greatest accomplishment, I’m sure he would say, was marrying up and having four wonderful kids. And that too is something that you won’t see in his clips on YouTube.

Rush Limbaugh:

Breitbart was outside himself in all of his quests.  When I say indefatigable, I never heard of him sleeping.  I know he did, but he was constantly on the go.  He was also a grateful guy and very thoughtful.  He was a guest at our wedding in 2010, and about two months prior he sent Cookie a note, wanted to know if she knew who one of my most inspirational figures was.  She told him.  He presented us with a classic painting of Ronald Reagan, and every year since, every birthday, three birthdays, he has sent me a giant painting, a different rendering of the American flag.

Newt Gingrich:

Andrew Breitbart’s sudden death is a tragedy for his family and for conservatism. Callista and I send our prayers and our condolences.  Andrew Breitbart was the most innovative pioneer in conservative activist social media in America. He had great courage and creativity.
