State Senator Brad Zaun (R-Urbandale) filed his own education reform bill today.  His bill would see the abolishment of the Iowa Department of Education and the State Board of Education.  It would also establish an education savings grant program and fund.  There are also changes that would be made to school district funding formula.  In a nutshell, parents keep their kids money to choose where they want to send their kids to school.  Zaun told me he’s calling these education scholarships.

I haven’t had a chance to read through it all, but consider it the antithesis of Governor Branstad’s bill.  You can read the draft version below (if does not yet at this point have a bill number):
