Governor Rick Perry (R-TX) was a keynote speaker at The FAMiLY Leader’s Leadership Summit at Point of Grace Church in Waukee, IA.  He focused on the relationship of faith and politics.  He highlighted Congressman Paul Ryan’s speech yesterday morning after being selected as Mitt Romney’s running mate when he said that “our rights come from nature and from God.”

Perry said, “Americans seem to be without hope.”  He noted that there is “a war going on against people of faith.”  He highlighted the HHS mandate, the Obama Justice Department trying to get rid of the ministerial exception, the refusal to defend DOMA, etc.

He said President Obama is waging a war on our values by dismantling our welfare reform by waiving the work requirement.

“I don’t want a government that is big enough to shield you from your every mistake.  If government is big enough to do that it is big enough to confiscate the fruit of your labors,”  Perry said.  “We don’t need leaders who blame past administration for what they did wrong, we need leaders who will stand up and fight.”
