Washington, D.C. – Today President Obama will unveil his plan to bypass Congress to force a radical climate change plan which will have devastating ramifications for Iowans.  Bruce Braley, who worked to help elect Barack Obama, is responsible for the liberal policy agenda that will destroy jobs, raise energy costs, and hurt working families in states like Iowa.

Families in Iowa believe that the most critical issue is growing the economy, creating jobs, and helping the middle class to get ahead. Yet President Obama’s latest energy tax proposal will lead to more red tape and harmful regulation, and higher costs that could cripple the agriculture industry and destroy local jobs.

Democrat Bruce Braley has been a loyal supporter of President Obama’s liberal agenda, voting with him nearly 90% of the time, including on extreme climate change measures that would hurt Iowa’s economy. Braley “proudly” supports the egregiously costly Cap and Trade legislation that would destroy jobs and raise taxes on middle class families and workers.

Braley has already voted for a climate bill and the consequences of his actions would devastate Iowa, costing the state as many as 31,500 jobs, and costing Iowans $1,076 more per year in electricity rates and $1.40 more per gallon of gasoline. Iowa’s agriculture industry, middle-class workers and families deserve better.

“Bruce Braley isn’t fooling anyone and has a lot of explaining to do,” said Brook Hougesen, Press Secretary for the National Republican Senatorial Committee. “Instead of fighting for Iowans, Congressman Braley fought to help President Obama and now is responsible for a radical agenda that threatens farmers, families, and entire industries in Iowa.  Braley made his choice, and in 2014 Iowans will get to make theirs.”
