(Van Meter, IA) – Today David Young released his second campaign ad.  David is Senator Chuck Grassley’s (R-IA) former Chief of Staff, and a Republican candidate running to represent the Third Congressional District in Congress.

Once again, David uses magic in his ad – this time to make the point that health care reforms should be focused on patients and market-based solutions, not the government.  The ad will air on broadcast television and on cable stations beginning Wednesday, May 20, in the Des Moines and Omaha-Council Bluffs media markets.  The ad highlights ObamaCare’s attempt to control the health care system to the detriment of patients.

David is campaigning on market-based and patient-centered solutions that will make a difference in the lives of Iowans by lowering health care costs.  “We must repeal ObamaCare and replace it with patient-centered reforms,” said Young.  “Patient-centered reforms like price transparency, allowing insurance companies to sell insurance across state lines, and enabling consumers in the individual insurance market to purchase health insurance with pre-tax dollars would all lower health care costs.”

Background Information: Providers receiving federal health care dollars should publish average prices and consumer cost-sharing estimates for common services.  A study conducted by Thomson Reuters in 2012 determines that ensuring price transparency and allowing consumers to shop for health care services would save $36 billion a year in the employer-sponsored health care market.  According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), allowing insurance companies to sell health insurance across state lines would lower health insurance premiums in the individual market between five and eight percent.  Finally, consumers in the employer-sponsored health insurance market are already able to purchase health insurance with pre-tax dollars; however, people in the individual insurance market are not able to do so.

David Young is former Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley.  He has received endorsements from former Iowa U.S. Congressmen Jim Ross Lightfoot and Tom Tauke.  He has also received endorsements from Iowa State Representative Pat Grassley, former Iowa State Auditor Richard Johnson, and County Auditors from Dallas, Fremont, Guthrie and Mills counties.
