(Des Moines, IA) A new political action committee, Vote 2 Reduce Debt, have been visiting Iowa preceding the state’s primary election on June 3rd.  Their website states lists their mission as twofold, “to elect a majority in the U.S. Senate which will vote to cut the national debt at every opportunity and to elect a President who is committed to cutting the national debt.”

Patrick Davis who serves as the political consultant for the group said during a meeting with several social conservative activists Thursday morning that during a phone poll of active church attenders in Iowa, 80% list the national debt as one of their top concerns.  They hope to mobilize 27,000 conservative Christians who were perhaps disengaged in the last election cycle to vote in Iowa’s U.S. Senate race.

Randy Hill, President of the group funded by Texas billionaire Ken Davis, told Caffeinated Thoughts that their goal is not to promote a particular strategy for cutting the debt, but rather to send people to Washington who make cutting the national debt a priority.

Vote 2 Reduce Debt recently endorsed State Senator Joni Ernst (R-Red Oak) in Iowa’s U.S. Senate GOP primary.  Hill said, “As a businessman I don’t want to go into a business opportunity unless it is going to be a successful one.”  He told Caffeinated Thoughts that they also will only endorse candidates that reflect conservative values.  “We want to invest our dollars, we want to invest our support and our time in the candidates that not only share our moral compass, but also share our belief in reducing the debt,” Hill added.

Ernst has expressed opposition to votes in the U.S. Senate that would raise the debt ceiling which is a tactic that Hill said his group is against.

They plan to engage in 13 other U.S. Senate races.
