(Des Moines, IA) The Draft Ben Carson Committee, a political action committee formed to draft Dr. Ben Carson into the race for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, today announced that State Rep. Rob Taylor, R-West Des Moines, and his wife Dr. Christi Taylor will serve as the Committee’s Iowa state chairs.

“Iowa plays an extremely important role in the presidential race, and a strong presence in the state is crucial to convincing Dr. Carson to run,” said Vernon Robinson, the Committee’s campaign director. “We are thrilled to have Rob and Christi chairing the draft effort in Iowa as we continue to build momentum here and around the country.”

The Taylors have played a prominent role in Iowa politics for many years. Rob Taylor, a lifelong Iowan, was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2012 and represents constituents in District 44, which includes the Dallas County portion of West Des Moines, Waukee and Clive.

Dr. Christi Taylor is one of the Iowa’s most prominent medical professionals. She is an internist with the Iowa Clinic. Dr. Taylor also serves as chairperson for the Dallas County Republican Party.

“Dr. Carson is a man of deep faith, principled character and unmatched leadership,” Rep. Rob Taylor said. “I am certain this is exactly what America needs from the next president in these uncertain times. It is because of these qualities in this man that I am proudly announcing my support for Dr. Ben Carson for president and I am honored to serve as his state chair.”

“Dr. Ben Carson is not only a brilliant physician, he is a natural and inspiring leader,” Dr. Christi Taylor said. “His passion for America, our freedoms, our families and defense of these freedoms is unparalleled. Dr. Carson is a champion for the American dream and America needs his leadership and vision. I passionately encourage and plead with Dr. Carson to run for president of the United States.”

Last month, Dr. Carson handily won a straw poll of Polk County Republicans, picking up 62 percent of the vote. Dr. Carson also took the top spot in the Western Conservative Summit Presidential Straw Poll in July and has placed near the top in presidential straw polls around the country.
