(INDIANOLA) – After yesterday’s successful first day of his tour with Sen. Charles Grassley, David Young today continued reiterating his support for allowing Iowans to keep their own health care plans, which is at odds with his opponent’s legislative record in Des Moines.

Young noted that as a state senator, Staci Appel voted against an amendment stating, “No law shall restrict a person’s natural right and power to secure the blessings of liberty to choose private health care systems or private health care plans.” (Amendment S. 5340 to H.F. 2531, Iowa Senate Journal)

Young vowed that if elected, he will fight for the right of Iowans to choose a health care plan that is best for Iowans and their families.

“My opponent refused to stick up for Iowans and cast a vote allowing Iowans to keep their health care plans,” said Young. “If my opponent can’t even stand up for Iowans just miles from her home while in Des Moines, why should we trust her to look out for our interests all the way out in Washington, D.C.?”

Young notes that Appel also supports Obamacare, which could reduce access to Medicare Advantage plans that seniors rely on by 50 percent, and cuts hospital access. (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, April 22, 2010)
