(Washington, DC) Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) and Family Research Council (FRC) revealed a new website today to assist consumers in determining which Obamacare insurance carriers include coverage of abortion on demand and which do not. Researchers at the national pro-life groups have been performing an ongoing examination of healthcare.gov and state-based exchanges since the “open season” began last Saturday, looking for information on abortion coverage and the accessibility of that information to users.

The launch of the website, www.ObamacareAbortion.com, comes after repeat failed attempts to secure answers on abortion transparency from the Obama Administration.

“Concern over taxpayer funding of elective abortion was the final hold up in passing the Affordable Care Act in 2010. Four years later, the Obama Administration’s landmark legislation remains a monument to confusion on this key issue,” said Chuck Donovan, president of CLI. “The Obama Administration’s Department of Health and Human Services has repeatedly stonewalled members of Congress, pro-life groups, and the media when asked to address the dearth of transparency on abortion coverage. The website unveiled today is a tool for pro-life consumers but it is not the best or final answer to a bad situation.”

“By launching ObamacareAbortion.com we are attempting to do what the Obama Administration has not been willing or able to do for the 2015 new enrollment. That is, to inform Americans find out about abortion coverage in Obamacare plans and expose the great difficulty in obtaining this information,” said Arina Grossu, Director, Center for Human Dignity, at the Family Research Council. “As in 2014, the Obamacare exchange lacks transparency, often lacks abortion-free options for many Americans, and continues to fund coverage of elective abortion with taxpayer money. We must do better than this by passing the Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act (H.R.3279) and the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act (H.R.7).”

In a video which surfaced earlier this month, key Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber called lack of transparency a “huge political advantage” to the law’s passage. Since October of 2013, CLI has reported on the lack of transparency and generally confusing nature of the exchange sites and plan options. This summer, the Government Accountability Office released a report identifying 1,036 ObamaCare plans that cover abortion on demand and receive taxpayer subsidies.
