Capitol-Senate.jpg(Washington, DC) Congressman-elect Rod Blum of Iowa’s First Congressional District has been selected by the House Steering Committee to serve on the Budget Committee and the Oversight & Government Reform Committee when he takes office in January for the 114th Congress.

“It’s an honor to be chosen to serve the people of Iowa’s First District on these two committees,” said Blum. “As a small business owner who has balanced budgets throughout my career, I look forward to restoring some fiscal common sense through my work on the Budget Committee. I am also energized by the chance to hold the federal government accountable to the American people through my position on the Oversight Committee. Everyday Eastern Iowans are deeply concerned that politicians and bureaucrats in Washington, DC act as if they are above the law, and it’s my hope that this committee assignment will give those concerns a voice.”

Led by incoming Chairman Rep. Tom Price (R-GA), the House Budget Committee’s responsibilities include legislative oversight of the federal budget process, reviewing all bills and resolutions on the budget, and monitoring agencies and programs funded outside of the budgetary process.

Led by incoming Chairman Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee’s responsibility is to hold government accountable to taxpayers while exercising effective oversight over the federal government and working proactively to investigate and expose waste, fraud, and abuse.

Rod Blum is the Republican Congressman-elect in Iowa’s 1st District. A former Iowa Entrepreneur of the Year, Rod graduated with a finance degree from Loras College and received his MBA from the University of Dubuque. A lifelong resident of Dubuque and current owner of Digital Canal Corporation, Rod is married to Karen Blum with five children. For more information please visit: www.RodBlum.com.
