Today is the 222nd Anniversary of our Constitution.  I know I’m a little late on this, but hey if you forgot you can mark the day tomorrow as well.  Some statements made about the Constitution throughout history.

We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.

– Abraham Lincoln

Don’t interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties.

– Abraham Lincoln

Our constitution protects aliens, drunks and U.S. Senators.

– Will Rogers

Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples’ liberty’s teeth.

– George Washington

The Constitution is the guide which I never will abandon.

– George Washington

The framers of our Constitution meant we were to have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.

– Billy Graham

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

– John Adams

Do not separate text from historical background. If you do, you will have perverted and subverted the Constitution, which can only end in a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government.

– James Madison

The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution, are worth defending against all hazards: And it is our duty to defend them against all attacks.

– Samuel Adams

"Empathy" is the latest code word for liberal activism, for treating the Constitution as malleable clay to be kneaded and molded in whatever form justices want. It represents an expansive view of the judiciary in which courts create policy that couldn’t pass the legislative branch or, if it did, would generate voter backlash.

– Karl Rove

All the rights secured to the citizens under the Constitution are worth nothing, and a mere bubble, except guaranteed to them by an independent and virtuous Judiciary.

– Andrew Jackson

The Constitution of the United States was made not merely for the generation that then existed, but for posterity- unlimited, undefined, endless, perpetual posterity.

– Henry Clay

Outside of the Constitution we have no legal authority more than private citizens, and within it we have only so much as that instrument gives us. This broad principle limits all our functions and applies to all subjects.

– Andrew Johnson

The United States Constitution is one of the greatest founding documents in history because it charted a bold new path in the realm of political theory. Not only does the Constitution establish checks and balances within the federal government, it also divides power among the federal government, the states, and the people. The Founders understood that it is the nature of government to grow at the expense of the people’s liberty; and with that in mind, they established a form of government that would be limited in scope and power in order to maximize power to the people.

Sarah Palin

There is nothing new in the realization that the Constitution sometimes insulates the criminality of a few in order to protect the privacy of us all.

– Antonin Scalia

I don’t think the Constitution is studied almost anywhere, including law schools. In law schools, what they study is what the court said about the Constitution. They study the opinions. They don’t study the Constitution itself.

– Robert Bork

The whole basis of the Constitution was a restriction of power, and the whole basis of the federalist system was that there was not one sovereign centralized power from which all authority flows.

– Roy Moore

But you answer, that the Constitution recognizes property in slaves. It would be sufficient, then, to reply, that this constitutional recognition must be void, because it is repugnant to the law of nature and of nations.

– William H. Seward

No power on earth is greater than a mind and soul reawakened. Our Constitution begins ‘we the people’, not ‘us the government’.

– Cal Thomas

Some ways to mark the day?  Read the Constitution, all of it.  Also take time to thank those who defend our Constitution and the liberty that we as a nation enjoy.
