(Little Rock, AR) Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee on Thursday released a new video titled “Reconciliation” which highlights his record fighting for racial reconciliation in the deep South.

Transcript:

Gov. Huckabee on MTP: “When I was a young pastor in my 20’s, I stood in front of what had been an all-white church – this was well over 30 years ago – and I welcomed the first African-American member to that church. I had death threats, there were people who said they’d leave the church, but instead I held my ground and I said ‘If he goes, I go.'”

Gov. Huckabee, speaking at 40th Anniversary of Desegregation of Little Rock Central High School: “Government can do some things, but only God can change people’s hearts. Government can put us in the same classrooms, but government can’t make classmates go home and be friends when school is out.” (VIDEO: Gov. Huckabee and President Clinton open doors of Central High to Little Rock Nine)

“Government can make sure the doors of every public building are open to everyone. Government can ensure that we share schools and streets and lunch counters and buses and elevators and theaters, but let us never forget that only God can give us the power to love each other and respect each other and to share life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
