(Des Moines, IA) U.S. Parents Involved in Education (USPIE) launched a campaign last Wednesday at a press conference at the Airport Holiday Inn & Conference Center to abolish the U.S. Department of Education.
“We have come to the conclusion that it is time for us to stop spinning our wheels in our states and gaining the kind of achievements that we are looking for,” Sheri Few, co-director of the group who is also the President of South Carolina Parents Involved in Education said. “And we decided it is time for us to put an end to the U.S. Department of Education and end all federal mandates on education.”
“We’ve grown weary of the constant rebranded reforms coming down from the Federal Department of Education and its allied bureaucrats at the state level, “Karen Lamoreaux, author of No Choice, No Voice: Something’s Rotten to the Core who is a board member for USPIE, as well as, Arkansas for Educational Freedom. “And now it is time to attack the problem head on, and get it at its root. Our children are coming home emotionally damaged from these reforms. Our academic achievement continues to go down. Meanwhile our federal spending continues to go up without results. The United States Department of Education have had 40 years to get this right. Instead it has shown pure incompetence and failure. Academic achievement is at an all-time low and parents are feeling the fracture of their parent-child bond.”
“Our children belong to us, the parents, we’re asking every candidate, right now, candidates for President to sign a pledge of how they are going to take care of doing away with the Department of Education. It’s time for us to take education back, and we’re calling candidates to be the first ones to do that,” said Tamara Scott, the Republican Committeewoman for Iowa and the state director for Concerned Women for America who is also on USPIE’s board.
USPIE has profiles of the presidential candidates on this issue. They currently have 30 state chapters to move the work forward.
