Dr. James Dobson has illustrated for me why it isn’t a good idea for those in Christian leadership to endorse Donald Trump. Shortly after the pow wow Trump had with evangelicals Dobson said that Donald Trump had recently been saved. He said someone he knew led Donald Trump personally to Christ.

If this was true this is good news. Heaven rejoices when one sinner repents. It does nothing to change my vote however because being a Christian does not automatically mean one will be a good President.

Regardless, I would rejoice as I too have called on Donald Trump to repent and place his faith in Jesus.

I don’t know Dr. Dobson’s motivation for sharing that story. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt because of the upmost respect I have for him and the work he has done over the years.

He did, however, walk his statement back:

Only the Lord knows the condition of a person’s heart.  I can only tell you what I’ve heard.  First, Trump appears to be tender to things of the Spirit.  I also hear that Paula White has known Trump for years and that she personally led him to Christ.  Do I know that for sure?  No.  Do I know the details of that alleged conversion?  I can’t say that I do.  But there are many Christian leaders who are serving on a faith advisory committee for Trump in the future.  I am among them.  There are about 25 of us that include Jerry Falwell, Jr., Robert Jeffress, Jack Graham, Ben Carson, James Robison, Michele Bachmann, and many others whom you would probably know.  We’ve all agreed to serve. How will that play out if Trump becomes president?   I don’t know.  It is a good start, I would think.

If anything, this man is a baby Christian who doesn’t have a clue about how believers think, talk and act.  All I can tell you is that we have only two choices, Hillary or Donald.  Hillary scares me to death.  And, if Christians stay home because he isn’t a better candidate, Hillary will run the world for perhaps eight years.  The very thought of that haunts my nights and days.  One thing is sure:  we need to be in prayer for our nation at this time of crisis.

So basically he heard from someone who heard that Paula White led Donald Trump to Christ, and he doesn’t really know any of the details of said conversion.

Paula White? First, she has been reported as saying that Donald Trump thinks he is saved (you know the guy who has never asked God for forgiveness).

Prosperity gospel televangelist Paula White says evangelical icon Billy Graham signed a Bible and wrote a letter with a “prophetic word” in it for Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump for his 60th birthday.

She also said the candidate firmly believes that he is “saved” and noted that based on what she knows of him, Trump “needs to be our next president.”

White who says she has been friends with the almost 70-year-old candidate for 15 years, made the comments at a large rally which attracted an estimated 10,000 people in Orlando, Florida, at the UCF CFE Arena on Saturday.

She vouched for Trump’s bona fides as a believer before invoking the billionaire’s association with Graham.

“Do you have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ? Are you saved?” White said of questions Trump has been frequently asked by Christian leaders in his circle.

“Emphatically it was always ‘yes,'” she said.

Secondly, there’s the fact that Paula White preaches a health and wealth gospel, so her belief that Trump is saved I’m sure is rooted in that because after all God has blessed Trump with wealth.

He has also “drunk that little juice” and has “eaten that little cracker” and if you haven’t heard it already, was confirmed in a Presbyterian Church as a little kid – he even has the picture to prove it.

I hope that Trump does come to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior, but this just appears to be nothing but some trying to justify their endorsement. If this truly did happen I think more people will be convinced when they hear his testimony (you know actually hear him articulate it) and, better yet, see the fruit of salvation when he doesn’t need evangelical votes.
