Congressman Steve King’s annual Col. Bud Day Pheasant Hunt will be held this weekend at the Hole N’ the Wall Lodge near Akron, Iowa. Hunting activities will take place Saturday and Sunday. Senator Charles Grassley will be King’s special guest for breakfast on Sunday morning, beginning at 7:30 am.

“I look forward to hosting Senator Grassley at the Hole N’ the Wall,” King remarked. “We all admire the Senator’s work ethic, conservative credentials, and determined leadership, particularly on the judicial issues our country is facing. We are both on the ballot next month and I appreciate the opportunity for him to spend time with fellow hunters.”

The Col. Bud Day Pheasant Hunt has regularly attracted national leaders who attend for the opportunity to hunt as well as interact with King’s supporters. “This event combines my passion for hunting with politics,” King remarked. “My guests and I have interacted with national political leaders in a unique setting. Having Senator Grassley with us with just a few days before the General Election is a great opportunity for the same conversations.”

Col. Day, a Sioux City native, was the nation’s most decorated war hero at the time of his death in 2013. A Medal of Honor recipient, he also received some 70 military decorations, including the Air Force Cross, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross and multiple awards of the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart and the Air Medal.

As a young Marine, Col. Day served in World War II, then later the Vietnam and Korean Wars. Captured during the Vietnam War, Col. Day was a prisoner for over 5.5 years and survived unimaginable treatment at the hands of his captors.

The Col. Bud Day Pheasant Hunt celebrates the legacy of one of America’s greatest military heroes. Col. Day himself participated in the hunt during its early years, taking part in an activity he greatly enjoyed near his northwest Iowa hometown.
