Iowa Governor Terry Branstad announced Monday that a special election will be held in Iowa House District 22 on June 27 to fill a vacancy following the death of State Representative Greg Forristall (R-Macedonia).
Forristall died last Wednesday afternoon after an undisclosed battle with cancer. He was 67-years-old.
Forristallās wife, Car0l, announced this morning that her husband asked her to run before he died and that she intended to do that.
Greg Forristall was first elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2006 serving Iowa House District 98 and then Iowa House District 22 after redistricting in 2013. Most recently Forristall served as Vice Chair on the House Education Committee. He also served on the House Labor, Human Resources, and Ways and Means Committees.

Iowa House District 22 is comprised of Pottawattamie County. The district is in safe Republican hands with the GOP having almost 6,000 more registered voters than Democrats in the district. In 2016, Greg Forristall ran unopposed.
