Republican candidate Jon Jacobsen won the Iowa House District 22 special election on Tuesday. The seat was vacant due to the death of State Representative Greg Forristall (R-Macedonia). Jacobson defeated Forristall’s wife Carol, who ran as an independent after losing the Republican special nominating convention, and the Libertarian candidate Bryan Jack Holder. Ray Stevens, was nominated by Democrats during a special nominating convention but failed to file in order to be on the ballot.
The results:
- Jon Jacobsen – 43.9% (1,069)
- Carol Forristall – 32.9% (803)
- Write-In – 19% (465)
- Bryan Jack Holder – 4% (98)
“I’m profoundly grateful for the trust that the citizen voters in District 22 have placed in me this evening. I will hit the ground running immediately and represent you zealously in Des Moines!” Jacobsen said in response to the results.
Jacobsen was a Senior Vice President at Treynor State Bank for 11 years and is currently Senior Trust Officer and Vice President at Security National Bank in Council Bluffs. He received his J.D. from the University of Iowa.
Jacobsen has been married to his wife, Debra, for 29 years, and they are members of St. Cecilia’s Cathedral Church. They have 3 grown children, Gerard, Peter and wife Hayley, and Jamie, and are expecting their first grandchild in September.
Jacobsen is a member of the Pottawattamie County Republican Central Committee. Jacobsen also co-hosted a political radio program on KMA for three years before the show ended this spring.
