Is your church safe? Is it secure? Does your church have a security plan? Would your church know how to respond if an active shooter entered the building? These are questions a lot of congregations, church staff, and leaders should consider after last Sunday’s shooting at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, TX that killed 26 and wounded 20.

Also, is your church prepared for other, more common threats?

Shane Vander Hart discussed this issue with Timothy Miller, the president and founder of LionHeart International Services Group, who is a church security expert. Miller is a 30-year military and law enforcement veteran who has commanded a special Marine Corps group that guarded nuclear facilities, identified and mitigated security threats against U.S. forces worldwide. He also served in the United States Secret Service assigned to the Washington Field Office, Miller coordinated all aspects of security for the President, Vice-President, and foreign heads of state on a regular basis. Regularly assigned to the Presidential and Vice Presidential Protective details, Miller was directly responsible for all aspects of security both domestically and internationally.

Miller is currently the Director of Security at Christ Fellowship in South Florida, a church of 30,000 with 7 campuses in South Florida.
