Congressman David Young (R-Iowa), running for a third term to represent Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, released his first TV ad today. The ad focuses on Young’s efforts to help veterans in crisis who were unable to get through to the Veterans Crisis Hotline.

Young introduced the No Veterans Crisis Line Call Should Go Unanswered Act in June of 2016 after a Government Accountability Office study showed 30 percent of the calls to the Veterans Crisis Line went unanswered.

The bill passed unanimously in the House of Representatives and U.S. Senate and was signed into law by former President Barack Obama in November of 2016. The law directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to created a quality assurance document for the Veterans Crisis Line and develop a plan that ensures “each telephone call, text message, and other communications received by the Veterans Crisis Line, including at backup call centers, is answered in a timely manner by a person, consistent with the guidance established by the American Association of Suicidology.”

“David has been fighting for our veterans since he was first elected to Congress and focusing on his work to make sure veterans have the mental health resources they need is the positive message Iowans expect from their representatives,” Dylan Lefler, Young’s re-election campaign manager, said.

The campaign said they would be on the airwaves starting from today until election day. Watch the ad below:
