I was saddened to learn that conservative activist Steve Riker passed away on Tuesday afternoon after a months-long battle with cancer. A struggle that most I’ve encountered did not know about because, as a friend told me this morning, “he didn’t want the drama.” He was 44-years-old and is survived by his wife, Becky, and their five children.

Steve was a fixture in Iowa politics especially within the liberty movement within the Republican Party of Iowa. He volunteered with Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign in 2016 and supported Ron Paul before that.

He was kind, outspoken, thoughtful, faithful, witty, and articulate. Steve was a guest co-host for the Caffeinated Thoughts Radio program several times, and whether he filled in for Brian Myers or me, we always appreciated having him on.

Steve was principled and stood firm in his convictions whether that was speaking out against the Republican establishment, leftist ideology, or President Donald Trump, he never waivered.

He loved to debate and dialogue with those who disagreed (which was with me on occasion).

Most importantly, Steve was a follower of Christ and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior cancer-free.

We’re going to miss Steve, but look forward to the day we’ll see him again. It fits Steve’s homecoming happened right after we celebrated Easter. Our risen Savior conquered sin and the grave and because of that those who know Christ have the assurance of eternal life, and while we feel this loss, we don’t grieve as those who do not have hope, (1 Thessalonians 4:13).

Take time to enjoy some of the episodes that Steve was a guest host for.

Also be sure to leave your favorite memory of Steve in the comments.
