President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi with their wives First Lady Melania Trump and Peng Liyuan.

I remain convinced that President Donald Trump’s approval ratings would be 10 percent higher, at minimum, if he just stayed off Twitter.

He just says dumb stuff on Twitter and I mostly try to ignore it. I can’t ignore today’s sampling. In the tweet below, the President of the United States, the leader of the free world, congratulated China on 70 years as a Communist country.

I’m pretty confident that Hong Kong is not celebrating today. I’m doubtful that the Republic of China (Taiwan) is celebrating either. I’m doubtful that China’s Christians and Muslims are celebrating the anniversary.

Do you think the families of the students who died in Tiananmen Square are celebrating either, you know the student protest that happened in Tiananmen Square in Beijing from April 15, 1989, to June 4, 1989, where China’s communist country cracking down on the students, according to President Trump showed the “power of strength” when they broke up the protests and killed anywhere between one to three thousand people (it’s hard to get an accurate number in a country without a free press).

The anniversary that President Trump congratulated the People’s Republic of China for was the end of a bloody civil war that killed millions of non-combatants. After Mao Zedong seized power he implemented policies that directly or indirectly led to the death of tens of millions of people in his land reform efforts, counterrevolutionary suppression campaign, the cultural revolution, and treatment of the Tibetan people.

President Trump congratulated China for the adoption of a system that persecuted Christians, Buddhists, and Muslims. He’s celebrating the abandonment of free speech, freedom of religion, and the freedom of the press. That’s not to mention the same system that allowed forced abortions under China’s draconian one-child policy.

Then he directly congratulates Chinese President Xi Jinping. President Xi, who during his tenure, according to Freedom House, has strengthened his hold on power, increased internet censorship and surveillance, increased the repression of Christians and Muslims following new regulations on religious affairs, and helped to increase the Communist Party’s control in state matters (if that’s even possible).

I never would have thought I would hear an American President congratulate a communist country on its anniversary. Ronald Reagan must be rolling in his grave.
