I can’t say I’m a fan of Project Veritas or James O’Keefe, but the first video released of their expose on CNN is pretty compelling.

The reason I find it compelling is that it was a CNN whistleblower, Cary Poarch, a satellite uplink technician and contractor at CNN’s Washington Bureau, who wore a hidden camera, recorded editorial calls, and then went on the record.

“I decided to wear a hidden camera, to expose the bias running rampant,ā€ he said in an interview with O’Keefe.

Another compelling aspect to their first report is hearing audio from CNN President Jeff Zucker giving marching orders to people on CNN’s morning call. “Impeachment is the story,” he said to those on one particular phone call.

ā€œI want to stay with this, our top, top ā€“ our own reporters, our own political analysts, the top, the top [unintelligible] we have. Okay, so make sure weā€™re doing thatAll these moves are moves towards impeachment. So, donā€™t ā€“ donā€™t lose sight of what the biggest story is,” Zucker said.

Attacking Fox News, he noted during a phone call, “The fake conspiracy nonsense that Fox has spread for years is now deeply embedded in American society and at the highest levels of the Republican elected officials as weā€™ve seenā€¦and frankly that is beyond destructive for America.”

Also recorded was CNNā€™s Vice President & Political Director David Chalian who pointed to Republicans.

ā€œI think as big of a story as big of a story as what President Trump has done here is the Republicanā€™s sort of either delusional or defiant or silent responses,” he said.

I don’t think we learn anything particularly new here, it just confirms what those of us on the right have thought about CNN since President Donald Trump was first elected – that they are biased.

I don’t think this means everything they report is “fake news,” and that everything they report should be ignored. It’s important to acknowledge the bias however. (Same goes for Fox News who tilts the other way.)

One of my chief complaints with Project Veritas are how the videos are pieced together with editorial comment thrown in. We lack fuller context, but I don’t think that negates some of the things Zucker said, and what we hear in this video certainly explains much of the tone and direction of CNN of late. That said, I hope O’Keefe will release some unedited video and audio that the Poarch recorded to ensure it wasn’t selectively edited.
