U.S. Senator Joni Ernst and State Senator Mariannette Miller-Meeks

OTTUMWA, Iowa – On Monday, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, announced her endorsement of State Senator Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Ottumwa, for Iowa’s Second Congressional District.

“Mariannette Miller-Meeks is a fighter and someone you know you can count on when things get tough,” Ernst said. “She served our country with distinction during 24 years in the Army and Army Reserves, as well as our state in leadership roles.  Mariannette will be a strong voice for Iowans in Congress and is someone they can count on to work on the issues that matter to them: jobs, trade, cutting government spending, reducing taxes, and more affordable and accessible health care. Mariannette energizes voters with her enthusiasm, determination and her commitment to continuing to improve the daily lives of folks across the Second District, our state and country.”

Ernst is the first woman elected to federal office from Iowa and the first female combat veteran elected to serve in the U.S. Senate. She serves on the Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry; Armed Services; Environment and Public Works; Judiciary; and Small Business and Entrepreneurship committees.

“Joni Ernst has been a role model and an inspiration for women in Iowa and across the country,” Miller-Meeks said. “Her endorsement, especially to run on the same ballot with her, is one that I accept with great pride and appreciation.”
