DES MOINES, Iowa – The State Objection Panel, which is comprised of Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate, Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller and Auditor of State Rob Sand, met Tuesday to consider nine objections to nominating petition signatures filed against primary election candidates. The panel heard arguments from the challengers and the candidates or their representatives.
Below is how panel ruled on each challenge.
- Craig Clark – Republican candidate in a two-way Republican primary in House District 52 (objection dismissed).
- Charlotte Dunnett – Republican challenger to State Rep. David Sieck, R-Glenwood, in House District 23 (objection dismissed).
- Jordan Omstead – Republican challenger to State Rep. Joel Fry, R-Osceola, in House District 27 (objection upheld, candidate will be removed from ballot).
- Steven Everly – Republican candidate in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District’s five-way Republican primary (objection dismissed).
- Rita Hart – Democratic presumptive nominee in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District (objection withdrawn prior to meeting).
- Randy Feenstra – Republican challenger in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District’s five-way primary (objection dismissed).
- Steve King – Republican Incumbent in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District’s five-way primary (objection dismissed).
- Bret Richards – Republican challenger Iowa’s 4th Congressional District’s five-way primary (objection dismissed)
- Jeremy Taylor – Republican challenger in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District’s five-way primary (objection dismissed).
The meeting originated from the Iowa Secretary of State’s Lucas Building Office and was conducted via conference call due to COVID-19 concerns about gatherings of 10 or more people.
