WINDSOR HEIGHTS, Iowa – At the site where Des Moines real estate executive Theresa Greenfield kicked out small businesses to try to make way for a multinational corporation, Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Jeff Kaufmann and Iowa small business owners exposed Greenfield’s failed record and continued to call for answers.

Last week, 11 Iowa small business owners—including Jacob Handsaker of Hands On Excavating who joined today’s press conference — sent a letter asking Greenfield questions about her decision as president of the real estate firm, Colby Interests, to kick out several small businesses from the Apple Valley Shopping Center in Windsor Heights. Greenfield has not responded.

“Des Moines real estate executive Theresa Greenfield has a clear record of turning her back on small businesses to line her own pockets. As more Iowans learn about Greenfield’s failed business record, it’s becoming clear that they simply can’t trust her,” Kaufmann said.

“When you run a small business, you put down roots where you are and you become a part of your community. It concerns me that Theresa Greenfield would throw our small businesses aside for the next big dollar sign coming. We would really like some answers from Greenfield on the letter that we sent, and we have not gotten any response yet,” said Jacob Handsaker of Hands On Excavating, who signed onto the letter to Greenfield last week.

“All the people, like Joni Ernst, stepping up for small businesses shows the desire and compassion that makes this country great. We all have a role we can play to keep our local businesses and families strong, and we need people like Joni Ernst to do that because Joni listens to Iowans, Joni cares for Iowans and Joni acts for Iowans,” said Mike Vaughn, Co-Owner of BDI Signs.
