DES MOINES, Iowa – Gov. Kim Reynolds announced that she appointed John Flynn as District Court Judge replacing Judge James McGlynn in Judicial District 2B, who announced he would resign effective September 3, 2020. 

Judicial District 2B consists of Boone, Calhoun, Carroll, Greene, Hamilton, Hardin, Humboldt, Marshall, Pocahontas, Sac, Story, Webster, and Wright counties. 

On July 1, the Judicial District 2B District Nominating Commission nominated Flynn, 38, of Boone and Jonathan Beaty, 44, of Humboldt for Reynolds to select to be her appointment for the vacancy.

Flynn received a B.A. in political science from the University of Iowa in 2004 and earned his J.D. from Drake University in 2007. 

He has been an attorney and partner at Jordan & Mahoney Law Firm, P.C., in Boone since 2008. Flynn’s law practice has centered around primarily civil and criminal law. In the first five years of his law practice, family and juvenile law was also an area of focus. 

Flynn did not hold any judicial office before this appointment.
