DES MOINES, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, was re-elected unanimously by Senate Republicans as Vice-Chair for the Senate Republican Conference on Tuesday.

“First, I’m very thankful to have made it through another election season and on to my second term and the United States Senate. So to the people of Iowa, I’m very honored to be able to serve you again for six more years,” Ernst said to reporters.

“For this leadership team, and for my Republican conference, I want to say thank you so much for once again electing me as vice-chair of the Republican conference,” she said.

Ernst said the leadership position allows her the opportunity to bring stories she hears on her annual 99-county tour from Iowans about their opportunities and challenges to members of the leadership team and the U.S. Senate. She allows her to ensure Iowans are represented to the best of her ability in the U.S. Senate.

“Also, you’ll recognize as the only female member of the leadership team; it is a great honor to be able to project a conservative woman’s voice on the national stage, and recognizing that this may have been the GOP year for our women… adding an additional voice for them as we continue to move through this next term,” she said.
